A Fanboy Exploring Spiderman: No Way Home

The Christmas gift for the Marvel fandom is finally here. Jon Watts’ masterpiece is here to give the most wholesome present to the Spidey fans. So, like a loyal Marvel fan, I watched Spiderman: No Way Home, and I can’t keep calm. This written piece is my experience of being in the fandom of Spiderman. I express my POV and thoughts right from the beginning of the Spiderman Multiverse rumours to watching the film. All you gotta do is sit back and enjoy my exploration of this movie.

P.S: Major spoilers ahead;)

The Rumors:

Like any other marvel fanboy, I was waiting for the movie, ever since the Multiverse theory got public. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland— all of them in the same movie. This is like the pinnacle of satisfaction that a Marvel fan could get. The only question was, will it come true? Will the spidey trio share the screen? Will we get to the movie of our dreams?

Isn’t it too good to be true?

The internet got flooded by the theories, rumours and leaked stills from the movie. Oh, and how did I forget memes? I had a ball of a time, sharing spidey memes. I still have one on my story ;)

Things get serious:

The day the trailer dropped BOOM!!!. The hype inflated to a whole new level. New theories, new expectations and a whole new set of questions started to rise. “Hello, Peter” two words caused more hype than the rest of the trailer. Tbh, I had never been so excited for a trailer.

While I was surfing through the internet, a notification popped up. I tapped on it, only to see a couple of stills from the movie.

One of them showed Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock (Daredevil) having a word with our friendly neighbour, Aunt May and Happy Hogan. He(Matt Murdock) is a lawyer by profession.

The other still showed Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland standing beside each other near with their spiderman suits on but without the masks. Believing my sceptical senses, I didn’t believe either of them.

Movie Release:

14th December, the movie screening took place. The same day I decided to quit social media until I saw the movie. Never have I ever been so scared of spoilers in my entire life. The movie got released in India on 16th, a day earlier than in other countries. I planned to go for the first-day first show but semesters happen to overlap so, the plan got postponed.

I and a friend decided to go and experience the thrill on a Sunday morning. The night shows were sold out in every damned theatre.

A friend of mine had a discount option on this card so we managed to get tickets at a discounted rate.

I had to wake up at 5:30 AM. The show was set to start at 6:55 AM. Perfect time margin I thought. Bathing at 6, breakfast at 6:15, we depart at 6:30. The morning plan was sorted!

7:00 AM, the morning show starts. It was a Dolby atmos show so we were expecting a super realistic experience. Our spidey friend was swinging right from the start but his voice seemed to be a bit subtle. Maybe because his identity was exposed and he was in trouble. As it continued to be like that for a couple of minutes, we realized that the problem was with the theatre sound system. Fortunately, the theatre staff was quick to take action. They stopped the movie, showed us a couple of Akshay Kumar advertisements(which sounded completely well) while we waited for them to fix whatever went wrong.

The movie restarts. And this time with a BANG!

The background music, the 3D visuals, the killer fight sequences — the movie turns out as a mix of emotions, thrill and action. The best part about watching this movie in a theatre is the sound system. You get to immerse into that very scene. You’re not only watching it, you are a part of it. You live that very moment.

The theatre went gaga when Tobey and Andrew entered the portals. No, it was not the way I expected, but a lot better than that. But before the interval, Matt Murdock’s special appearance was something we all weren’t ready for. The leaks were right.

My favourite scene — when all the three spidermen swung together and land on the statue of liberty. The perfectly aligned music, seamless VFX and the build-up made the scene worth all the attention.

Throughout the movie, the characters throw subtle references to the past movies at you that’ll plunge you into a sudden nostalgia. Furthermore, there’s a meme/movie reference in the movie the goes…

Man, what a treat to the eyes. I still feel the vibe. The sudden hits of nostalgia, the satisfaction and the questions that the movie leaves you with make it totally worth a watch.

The post-credit scene was the ultimate cherry on the cake. Initiation of a news story that will pave the way for the next spidey movie. According to me of course. #venom

My Views :

After the movie, Tom Holland’s spiderman will be seen from a different perspective since nobody in the world knows his secret identity.

The movie does a pretty good job balancing the emotional and thriller aspect of the story. This one is a good origin story of the MCU spiderman. The movie beautifully portrays the fate of spiderman — sacrificing for the wellbeing of others.

The movie keeps surprising you with each subsequent scene and one can easily sail through the two and a half hours without getting bored even for a sec.

Except for a few things like Ned opening the portals, effortlessly, most of the things shown in the movie makes complete sense. The movie gives tiny small humour punches which make the experience even more fun. All in all, I’ll highly recommend you to give it a watch.

Now after all I am not a critic. I am just another boy who loves watching superhero movies sharing his experience. This post is just what I think and I’ve experienced.

Thank you so much if you’ve read this much. If you have watched Spiderman: No way home already, let me know your experience too.
